These Italian conversation cards are perfect for developing Italian speaking skills - there are 200 question and answer cards and two reference books focusing on building conversation. They’re also great for multi-skill language learning - they give students structured talk opportunities and will also get them listening, reading and writing. They’re ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work - my students frequently select the speaking and writing cards for their free-choice learning activity. The prompt cards feature language and structures that your students are likely to meet in the beginning and into intermediate stages of their Italian learning, including a range of tenses. They’re also useful for GCSE Italian revision. The reference books include all the questions and answers written out in Italian. Students find it a very useful learning support resources and it’s also handy for whole-group pronunciation and reading-out loud practice. Students use the Notes and Next Steps template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning - we use this to guide and inform discussions we have as a whole-group about where students think they are at the moment, and what they think they might like to work a little more on. They also note ideas for creating their own questions, and any new vocab or structures they might learn. The question and answer card writing templates give students the opportunity to apply their Italian very practically, as they create both questions and answers for each other, using the reference book as a form of writing frame to help them form their language correctly. This is a great team activity too. We also use the cards for a whole range of games, and I’ve described how to play several you can start with that work really well for us. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more*** detailed and descriptive language***. SPANISH AR VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE #1

GCSE SPANISH KS4 SPANISH KS3 SPANISH SPANISH AR VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom, in whole or in part, in any way. The license is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use 3 workbooks, 3 tenses @ £1.10 each in the bundle focusing on 25 high-frequency Spanish AR verbs. The tenses are: = present (presente) = perfect (perfecto compuesto) = preterite (pretérito) There are 150 quick conjugations in each workbook across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, so 450 conjugations in total in the bundle. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The workbooks are ideal for advanced KS3 Spanish into KS4 Spanish / GCSE Spanish students who are beginning to work regularly with more complex language and texts, and generally developing their knowledge and understanding of conjugation and tense in Spanish. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice, reinforcing and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for individual activities during sub lessons - I move onto conjugation quite quickly in my language learning programs, so that students can apply language practically and creatively, which is essential for progressing in language learning, as well as consolidating language and grammatical concepts. I give my students regular opportunities to practice the conjugations during the whole schools year, which they find this really useful for mapping their own progress and developing their overall understanding of how Spanish conjugation ‘works’. When they are able to provide the correct conjugation very quickly, and out of a specific context, they feel really confident that their conjugation skills are developing well Language learners do often try to conflate what they know about grammar in their first language with the grammar of the language they are learning. With the Spanish perfect tense for example, students with English as a first language frequently use tener instead of haber as the auxiliary, as they tend to be more familiar with tener. Students do need to to have a good grasp of the auxiliary verb haber in the present tense to ensure that they can form the Spanish perfect tense accurately. When we look at the preterite tense in Spanish, students often confuse it with the imperfect tense when they are conjugating verbs, as well as when and how to use either tense. There are specific and important differences in usage between the tenses, and I do always discuss this with students about this when we’re using the workbooks. Each set is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: Spanish-English and English-Spanish, useful for longer-term reference too Three differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in Spanish across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in Spanish, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in Spanish. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding Spanish verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from a Spanish prompt. I use the Notes and Next Steps template to encourage my students to reflect on their progress, and think about what they can reasonably and realistically do to meet learning targets and move on - we revisit the conjugations, and the Notes and Next Steps, regularly - sometimes students haven’t quite embedded learning before it’s time to move on, so revisiting for 10-minute ‘chunks’ is really popular with them. Students not any new verbs they learn, which in time builds into a really comprehensive verb vocabulary bank. We also use the Notes and Next Steps to inform, guide and focus whole-group discussion on learning and progress in general, which is a really popular activity. The answer key has six pages and is in book format. Answer keys are essential for this kind of learning activity, as they do provide a really essential additional opportunity for students to engage with language, and my students prefer to work and learn independently, assessing their own progress, either individually, in pairs or in small groups. They’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing! Try this free Spanish quick conjugation sampler - you’ll be able to see if this kind of grammar activity would work well for your students: SPANISH CONJUGATION PRACTICE SAMPLER https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-conjugation-practice-sampler-12477165 Have a browse in my store for more Spanish grammar activities, and a wide range of Spanish language teaching and learning materials, with Spanish resource boxes, special offer bundles and lots of freebies - I’ve included a couple here for you to try. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

It may not be copied, shared, amended, rewritten or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom in any way. The license is a single-user license only. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I encourage my beginner English students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive English vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organizing their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning binders or folders. My students all have reference resource binders or folders, which can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files - we use twine or thick string too. I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. Numbers definitely provide lots of opportunities for cross-curricular learning in class time, particularly with mental maths games, which really help beginner English learners get to grips with the vocabulary. My students find this English Numbers 0-31 recall worksheets really helpful - download for free here: ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-31 WORKSHEETS FREEBIE #1 https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/english-numbers-0-31-worksheets-freebie-1-12973394 There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag, which I generally use for English vocabulary display, and plain. GERMAN EUROPE COUNTRIES & CAPITALS 2 MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUIZZES

GERMAN EUROPE COUNTRIES AND CAPITAL CITIES GERMAN CROSS-CURRICULAR LEARNING EUROPE TWO MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUIZZES IDEAL FOR THE EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES TOO Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The produce is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Ideal for cross-curricular learning in German class: students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. At the same time, students are developing their German language skills: speaking, listening and reading in particular, as well as broadening their German vocabulary. We play both as a whole-group team quiz, and in pairs or small groups on a regular basis - students are particularly keen to see if they can beat their own points record, and are really motivated by their developing knowledge. The set contains all European countries and capital cities, including some island communities such as the Faroe Islands and Guernsey. Each question has 4 answers to choose from. The correct answer is given in capital letters. The quiz cards are numbered, but questions can be asked in random order too: simply place all the cards in a bowl, box or tin, and work your way through. There are two quiz challenges: Challenge 1 gives the country as a prompt, with four possible capital cities to choose from. Challenge 2 gives the capital city as a prompt, with four possible countries to choose from. This challenge uses the definite article in the responses to help consolidate students’ knowledge of the gender of individual countries and the use of the dative following the preposition von. The card numbers for Challenge 1 are in the top right-hand corner; Challenge 2 in the top left-hand corner so that the cards can be organised and sorted easily. Laminate the cards if possible: they’re more learner-friendly, and remain in excellent condition for years. Before playing, it’s useful to show students a map of Europe, so that they can visualize the location of each country and capital city, not only as an individual location with Europe, but also as a location in relation to other European countries and capital cities. This definitely helps students understand and memorise the countries and capital cities. FACTS ABOUT LANGUAGES BUNDLE #1

BACK TO SCHOOL ICE-BREAKERS FACTS ABOUT LANGUAGES TWO SET OF 36 FACTS CARDS @ £2.50 EACH The resource is non-editable in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-license only. Please read the Terms of Use. The facts focus on world languages, and is a great whole-group learning activity at any time of the school year. They’re particularly useful as***ice-breakers in the back-to-school phase***, as it’s a very social activity, and really gets students up from their desks, walking around talking to each other. The information addresses a very wide range of languages topics, from world history, history of language, varied fields within linguistics to global languages facts for example. The cards are designed for older students, as the facts do require a certain level of world knowledge and language awareness, and particularly world geography. I always screen a world map first, pointing out continents, countries, regions and territories and so on, because using the cards is also a great way of actually learning about the world, its history, shifting geographical and political borders, migrating populations and so on. I use the cards in various ways: for example, a really popular method is the walk and talk activity, where students take a card each, walk around the classroom, exchanging facts - when they’ve shared the information on their card, students swap cards, and carry on walking — in this way, they encounter the same facts a couple of times, which really embeds knowledge. I tend to do this activity several times across the school year, following it up with an informal whole-group quiz, particularly when I feel that students need a break from more formal learning. I also use the cards as either entrance or exit cards - again, followed by a quick quiz at several points in the year - simply turn the language on the individual cards into a question format. This works really well when students quiz each other, which moves them away from teacher-led learning towards more independent and social learning. Please note this is the World Languages version of my European Day of Languages Facts about Languages set: if you have already purchased that set, there is no need to purchase this one.
